Unfortunately, because of some damage to the Tunnel, visits had to be suspended in April 2006. Repair work and refurbishment to improve access for visitors has been undertaken by Newcastle City Council using funding from sources including The Heritage Lottery Fund, TyneWear Partnership and One North East as well as the City itself. The tours were re-started in May 2009. Tours of the Tunnel were conducted by volunteer guides organised by Marian Jones, the Heritage Volunteers Support Officer for the Newcastle Community Heritage Project until August 2010 when the Ouseburn Trust took over the running of tours for the general public. Bookings for tours can now be made through the Ouseburn Trust . As well as visits to the Tunnel, overground walking tours along the length of the Tunnel are sometimes offered but can also be made by arrangement. Further information about Tunnel tours and guided overground walks may be obtained from: The volunteer guides will include members of the Ouseburn Heritage Group which is a sub-committee of the Ouseburn Trust . For several years members of the Heritage Group conducted tours of the Tunnel with permission of the City Council. The Heritage Group is a small group of individuals who have a interest in the heritage of the Lower Ouseburn Valley, particularly its important industrial history. The Group produces an annual series of guided walks and visits around the Ouseburn Valley area during the Summer, and public talks at the Cumberland Arms during the Winter months. It also produces the occasional newsletter with short articles and items of information relevant to the history of the Ouseburn Valley. Further information about the Ouseburn Trust and the Heritage Group and its activities may be obtained from: Any comments, corrections or questions about the content of this website would be welcomed by the compiler at: info@victoriatunnel.info
